Federal Realty is seeking to hire an experienced Senior Development Accountant in our North Bethesda, MD headquarters to provide job cost accounting support for the company’s development, redevelopment, tenant coordination, and capital improvement projects. This position reports to the Development Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate has an excellent attention to detail, is forward thinking and a self-starter, and has a strong knowledge of general accounting practices and procedures relating to commercial real estate development.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate job cost/project accounting records for capital jobs including budgets, coordinate revisions to budgets, enter contracts/commitments and change orders, and review invoices for correct job cost information.
  • Maintain and update financial proformas for assigned development projects.
  • Track vendor contracts and change orders for capital jobs and ensure that invoices are being properly applied to open contracts.
  • Provide reporting for and attend project update meetings on development and redevelopment projects, capital improvement projects, and tenant buildout jobs.
  • Process invoices and review general contractor payment applications including retention, lien waiver tracking, etc.
  • Accurately review all job cost invoices for correct account coding and support documents through the automated AP system.
  • Process tenant allowance payments in compliance with lease documents, ensuring all necessary documentation is correctly included.
  • Conduct quarterly G/L account reconciliations.
  • Interface with auditors to provide requested information during quarterly reviews and annual audits as well as provide documentation for internal/external periodic SOX audits.
  • Coordinate quarterly meetings with property managers, development managers, and tenant coordinators to review open capital jobs.
  • Perform accounting analysis and research projects as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in development, construction, commercial real estate, and/or related industry, with financial analysis, job costing, and public company experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting/finance
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to work successfully with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong computer and analytical skills and familiarity with database systems and accounting software
  • Advanced MS Excel skills with extensive spreadsheet experience
  • Proven ability to be adaptable, organized with a strong attention to detail, and successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously within tight time constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-sufficient and a self-starter and work independently
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others and thrive in a team-oriented, fast paced environment
